How to Bid
Step 1 – Browse the Auction catalogue on your preferred Bidding platform
Step 2 – If you wish to Bid, then Register for the Auction on your preferred Bidding platform. You will be allocated a Paddle number.
Step 3 – Do your Research and list the Lots you are interested in. Read the description, study images, see the condition grades. Set a Maximum Bid considering there is a Buyers Premium and Bidding Platform Premium to be added to the Hammer Price.
WARNING – DO NOT BID AT AUCTION IF YOU CANNOT AFFORD TO PAY FOR THE LOT WITHIN 7 DAYS – DO NOT BID AT AUCTION IF IT PUTS YOU IN DEBT
Step 4 (A) – If you cannot join us for Live Bidding on the day, then you can place a Confidential Pre-Auction Bid and enter your Maximum Bid. The computer system will execute this on the day for you. If you are out-bid prior to auction day you will be notified by email, so you can decide if you wish to increase your Maximum Bid.
Auction day
Step 4 (B) – Logon to your preferred Bidding Platform and click on the link ‘Join Auction’ – if you are Registered for the Auction you are all set; if you are Not-Registered then register now. You cannot bid if you are not registered for the auction.
For ‘Live’ Auctions you will see and hear the Auctioneer. We are set up at least 10 minutes before the Auction is scheduled to commence so you can adjust your sound.
You do not have to watch the whole auction and you don’t need to watch from the start. We process approximately 60/70 Lots per hour; so with a scheduled 9am start and if your Lot is number 210, you probably don’t need to join the auction until midday; but don’t miss out for the sake of joining a little earlier.
Step 5 – Bid for the Lot(s) you are interested in, but be mindful of your Maximum Bid and try not to exceed it. It is easy to get carried away. Remember the Buyers Premium and Bidding Platform Premium will be added to the Hammer Price.
Post-Auction
Step 6 – If you were the successful Bidder of a Lot(s), then you will receive an Invoice within two hours of the close of the Auction. If you do not receive an invoice check your Junk/Spam folder.
The invoice will be sent from address: mail@mail.liveauctionservices.com
Step 7 – Click on the Link on the Invoice to see the Lots you have Won and to Pay the Invoice – Payments can be made by Bank Transfer or Debit Card
(If you pay by Bank Transfer ensure you state the Reference stated on the email, which is your Paddle Number and Auction Reference – you may experience a delay when paying by bank transfer as there has to be a manual bank reconciliation to match your payment with your outstanding invoice)
Step 8 – Once payment is made/reconciled – Follow the instructions on the email chain. You can either (A) Book a collection from us in Horsham or (B) Request a Shipping quotation.
Step 8A – You can Book a Collection on the on-line calendar. Collections are usually available from the Monday following the Auction date, for a period of 10 days.
Step 8B – Click the link to request a Shipping quote. We will then respond with an Invoice for Shipping. Once this invoice is paid, we will be carefully packing your Lot(s) and dispatching it to you. The package is sent at your risk and insured for loss only, not breakages.
If the Lot is particularly delicate, we recommend that you arrange collection. If a Lot is particularly Heavy and cannot be shipped, we mention this in the description of the Lot.
Step 9 – When the package(s) have been sent, you will receive an email stating the couriers tracking reference number. Expect delivery within 48 hours in the UK. We use UPS as our principal shipping partner.
Frequently asked questions?
- What is the Buyers Premium?
- This is the commission we charge on top of the Hammer Price. Our Buyers Premium is 22% + vat (26.4% incl.vat)
- What is the Bidding Platforms Premium?
- This is the commission that EasyLive and Saleroom charge for the use of their platform. Check at time of registration as to their fee. At time of writing EasyLive charge 3.6% and Saleroom 6% incl.vat
- EasyLive premium can be reduced to 0% for Live Auctions if your elect to pay a £3 registration fee
- Do you recommend one Bidding Platform over another?
- No, we have successful bidders on both platforms. We do not prioritise bidding one platform over another. Sometimes we have conflicting bids and we may have to ‘toss a coin’ to determine which bid to accept, but the declined bidder has the opportunity to counter bid if bidding live.
- Can I view Lots ahead of the auction?
- Yes there are typically one or two viewing days scheduled before the auction. Look at the auction details for dates, book an appointment and send a list of Lot numbers you are interested in.
- We do take many images to help you study the Lots, but are welcome to visit.
- Can I place a Commission Bid direct with yourselves to avoid Bidding Platform fees?
- Yes you can, please complete the ‘Get in Touch’ form below, selecting ‘Commission Bid’
- These must be done at least 24 hours in advance
- We may ask for a deposit and will need to verify your contact details.
- Can I place a Telephone Bid?
- No, we do not have the staffing numbers to cater for Telephone bids.
- What are the payment terms?
- Strictly 7 days from Auction date
- What are the shipping charges?
- We have a table of shipping charges on our website see ‘Shipping’ menu tab
- You will notice that each Lot shows a weight in grammes, these are so you can predict the likely cost of shipping by weight before you bid; this stated weight excludes packaging. So use the weights quoted as indicative only.
- Can I arrange for my own courier to collect the Lots on my behalf?
- Yes, we are pleased to work with whoever is able to collect for you. Knowing who and booking an estimated collection date/time is needed.
- What happens if I do not pay for my winning Lot(s)?
- You are contractually obliged to pay for your Lot when the Hammer falls.
- You risk legal action against you if you do not pay.
- You risk being black-listed from other auctions on both bidding platforms – subsequent Auction registrations become very difficult for you
- You will not be able to bid again at one of our auctions.
- If you do not have the means to pay, do not bid. Do not put yourself in debt by biding at auction.
